Electric-Clam

Electricity has played a major role in my life since childhood, especially during my vocational training and later in computer science.

So it's no surprise that when I hear something like "Electric Clam," I feel compelled to visit these creatures.

So, off I went on an underwater adventure!
But every journey begins with a single step. There was much else to see along the way...

This video was created during my dives in October 2025 in the northern tip of the island of North Sulawesi, west of Manado.

Some excerpts from the video

Identifying the species of the animals isn't easy for me, as I'm not an expert. Dive guides are a great help here. Internet help is also available, but it's often difficult to find the right species.

If you find any discrepancies, please let me know. The best way is via E-Mail.

Feather duster worm
Tube-dwelling anemone
Hammer Coral (Euphyllia ancora)
Star coral (Orbicella annularis)
Luminous File Clam (Ctenoides ales)

And here it is! The Electro-Clam
It is known for its bright red tentacles and white shell rim, making it excellent for videos.
The Disco Clam. That's another name for it.

This clam is classified as an expert species in marine aquariums, as keeping it for extended periods is considered extremely difficult. An aquarium of at least 300 liters is recommended for keeping it.
Nothing is currently known about the potential toxicity of this clam.

So: look for it while diving!
Stony Coral (Cycloseris costulata)
Lettuce Coral (Pectinia lactuca)
Elkhorn coral (Acropora palmata)
Barracudas (Sphyraenidae)
Barracudas are predatory fish found worldwide in tropical and temperate waters. They have a slender, pike-like body with a large mouth and dagger-like teeth. There are about 26 known species, ranging in size from 23 centimeters to over two meters in length. Younger fish often form large schools, while older specimens tend to be solitary. They hunt by ambush and can swim very fast to catch their prey.
